We are a
partnership underpinned by shares values and a common history, moreover a people united by common blood - Scotland is family and families are stronger
together.
Aristotle
was correct in saying 'The whole is greater than the sum of its parts'. In a
highly uncertain world I cannot think of anything more foolhardy, than to end a
307-year old union which has brought untold economic benefits.
In a fast-changing competitive global economy, it is
imperative that we pool resources and share risks if we to succeed. We did that just in 2009, when the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) was teetering on the brink of collapse, by injecting over £40bn and
providing hundreds of billions in loan guarantees - a measure impossible under an
independent Scotland.
I remember Alex
Salmonds notorious 'arc of prosperity', this included countries such as Ireland and Iceland -
small independent successful nations that he wished to emulate. Following the
banking crisis these have turned into basket cases, their failings banks
overwhelming the state's capacity to rescue them triggering economic collapse.
Presently
Scotland has the best of both worlds, the financial safety net of the union and
greater powers though continued devolution. I urge canny Scots not to fall for Alex Salmonds chicanery and reject his reckless
gamble.
